Stonetswift is a Winnipeg catering company built on the belief that seasonal, locally sourced food makes every event better.
Where Stonetswift started and why it still matters
Stonetswift was founded in Winnipeg in 2016 by a culinary team that had spent years working in restaurant kitchens where the menu followed the season as a matter of principle, not marketing. When we moved into catering, we brought that discipline with us. The question we ask before every proposal is the same one we've always asked: what's genuinely worth eating right now, in Manitoba, in this week of the year? The answer changes constantly — that's the point. We work with a network of farms, market gardens, and artisan producers across the Winnipeg region and rural Manitoba. Relationships with those suppliers stretch back to our first year, and several of them grow specific varieties for us by request. That level of connection to the land and to local growers shapes every menu we write. Over eight years and more than 400 events catered across Winnipeg, we've remained deliberately small. Our team operates as a close unit — culinary lead, two senior cooks, a logistics coordinator, and a rotating crew of experienced service staff we trust. Staying small means we can be specific, careful, and genuinely invested in each event rather than managing volume.
How we work — and what we don't do
Every engagement at Stonetswift starts with a real conversation. We don't send you a PDF menu and ask you to pick three items. Instead we have a planning session — by phone, video, or in person at our Portage Ave base — where we understand your event before we write anything. From there we draft a personalised seasonal proposal within two business days, and we revise it until the menu is genuinely right for your occasion. We're transparent about our limits. We don't operate outside the greater Winnipeg region without prior discussion — events in Brandon or beyond require early planning and may carry a travel supplement. We don't hold a liquor licence, so while we advise on drinks pairings and can coordinate with a licensed supplier, alcohol supply is outside our scope. We also don't take on more events in a single weekend than our team can execute with care — which means we sometimes turn away bookings. We'd rather tell you our limits honestly than overcommit and underdeliver. If your event is a strong fit, you'll experience a team that's fully present and completely focused on making your occasion exceptional.
